Japonica Logos: Love; Answers

Here are the answers to the questions on the "Love" edition of "Japonica Logos."

First question: Which word means that you want someone all to yourself, "Ai" or "Koi"?
Answer: "Koi."
Host Tamori explains his understanding of the kanji for "koi"; the bottom part is the heart; the middle shows that the heart is on fire; on top of all that is a lid shutting that all in, making the feeling intense.

Question 2: Which word describing flirting has a more negative connotation, "icha-icha" or "beta-beta"?
Answer: "icha-icha."
"Icha-icha" seems like you are flaunting your flirting behavior for others to see; "beta-beta" has the meaning of clinginess, but for couples with established relationships, it seems kind of natural for them to be huggy or together.
This picture shows the dictionary definition of "icha"... it originally meant "a young girl" and thus, "icha-icha" has the feeling it's done by young couples.

Question 3: Which word can actually mean "OK," "yamete" or "iya"?
Answer: "Yamete."

As these pictures explain, "yamete" means to "stop this action," but "iya" has a stronger feeling of disgust or dislike.

Question 4: Which word means you may like the person, "ikenai hito" or "warui hito"?
Answer: "ikenai hito." "Ikenai hito" connotes a naughty person, but "warui hito" means the person is bad or evil.

Gah! I didn't know the answers were posted here. ^_^;;

It was entertaining though. I managed to get 3 out of 4 correct. "Icha Icha" finally answers my question why it was [Naruto] Kakashi's book were title such (got it right, though). A mistranslation on part made me read "ikenai person" as "no-go person", which made me choose the other one. :P

I look forward to the next installment.

Hey, thanks for visiting, bakaboobie. ^_^ I posted the Japonica Logos stuff in the Japanese Culture forum on AoD, so you can find them there also. When another interesting one comes up, I'll be sure to blog that also.

Hi! Just popped in after googling for Japonica Logos... there's surprisingly little about that show on the web so it was nice to come across your blog. =) Thanks for posting! I only wish I could download episodes somehow. =(

How do you know about Japonica Logos? I think the show is interesting for advanced language learners, but I don't know how long they can keep coming up with interesting topics.
